    Merel Technologies mTouch Multi-Touch Table

Merel Technologies and other Table “tablet” manufactureres gave us a glimplse of the Table “Tablet” concept for a couple of years now, and when it was first revealed, it cost an arm and a leg. Additionally, it wasn’t really available for public purchase.  But now, just a few years later all the tech that went into the “Surface” has become relatively cheap.  Merel Technologies mTouch Table is a great example of this and comes in a 32-inch and 42-inch model for $3200 and $4200 respectively, which can both be purchased right now.

It’s essentially a touchscreen LCD running at 1080p that is connected to a quad core processor computer backed by a hard drive, 4GB of RAM and a GeForce 9300 graphics card.  The touch components are proprietary to Merel as is the UI/OS.  Aside from a built-in full blown browser window (virtual keyboard included) and the ability to sync your media from your phone, they’ve also got an app store (mStore) for downloading new applications.

This is impressive technology, and while it’s not revolutionary in its user interface, the fact that the same technology has been enlarged and incorporated into a large tablet the size of a table is a fabulous idea. This could be a huge category for board rooms and schools. Look for this technology trend to boom, and if you’re looking for a stock tip, you may want to get in on the ground floor with Table Tablet manufacturers. I really see this taking off.
