FOCAL 165KRX2 6.5″ Component Speaker Kit- Cream of the Crop Component Audio

The 165 KRX2 is a 6.5 inch 2-way speaker kit from the K2 Power line of Focal speakers.  They are for those seeking the highest quality of music in their car. Its 2 Ohm impedance gives it 3 dB efficiency, which means it can produce a fuller, lifelike sound from any powered head unit or amplifier. The kit includes Focal’s premium aramid fiber inverted dome tweeter with wave guide that delivers smoothness, high definition and accuracy combined with controlled directivity and optimal staging. Very high power handling and extremely detailed sound is achieved through the legendary K2 composite sandwich cone, made by hand in the factory in France. The kit also includes a high precision separate crossover with adjustable tweeter level and midrange controls.

The K2 Power 165KRX2 6-3/4″ component speaker system bears the hallmarks of Focal’s “Power Hi-Fi” philosophy. Nimble woofers made from Aramid and glass fibers demonstrate the control needed to reproduce delicate classical passages, yet they’ll handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy music with authority. The sturdy zinc-aluminum alloy baskets are non-magnetic so they won’t interfere with the speaker’s own electronics. And this 2-ohm system extracts maximum power from your stereo or amp so you’ll get a little more punch from your system.

Focal’s 2″ inverted dome tweeters act like little woofers, dispersing the highs in a wide pattern to create an exceptionally natural soundstage. K2 Power crossovers use hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs and lows for a dynamic stereo image. The 165KRX2’s crossover features three levels of tweeter control, a tweeter “slope softening” selector, and two levels of midrange control so you can dial in the sound to your car’s environment.

Here’s a list of detailed specs:

    • Component speaker system includes two 6-3/4″ woofers, 2 tweeters, 2 external crossovers, and 2 woofer grilles
    • K2 composite woofer cone (Aramid, foam, and glass fiber)
    • Butyl rubber surround
    • 2″ woven Aramid fiber inverted-dome tweeter
    • 2-way external crossover with 3 tweeter levels, 2 tweeter slopes, and 2 midrange level settings
    • 2-ohm impedance
    • Power range: 6-100 watts RMS (200 watts peak power)
    • Frequency response: 70-20,000 Hz
    • Aensitivity: 93 dB @ 2.83 V
    • Mounting depth: 3-1/16″

The 165 KRX2 kit doesn’t come cheap. Retailing at $1,299.00, the KRX2’s detail and clarity are second to none. The sound is as pure as it gets, crisp, crystal clear and a warm natural phonic. The mids equally balance out the highs and lows better than any components system I’ve tested. Bottom line, these speakers are phenomenal and have a lot of flexibility with the passive crossover like a few additional switches Focal gives you in the crossover.  While the price tag is a little salty, if you are an audiophile and value Stereo Quadraphonic, the FOCAL 165KRX2 6.5″ Component Speaker Kit gets down and dirty with quality.  You simply can’t buy a better system, really for any amount of money.
