The Egg WiMax adaptor for iPhone 4 review

So, the iPhone 4 does not have 4G (WiMax) yet.  iPhone 5 will surely sport it, but currently, nada.  That’s where ‘The Egg’ comes in.  It’s a case for the iPhone 4, which provides 4G connectivity.

It also has a built-in battery that adds up to 5 hours of ultra high speed web surfing.  And if you don’t mind the added girth, (it adds up to 8mm of thickness and weighs 2.4oz), then this product might make your shopping list.

It’s available in Korea for for about $130, and I had a chance to try it out.  Yes, it make your iPhone 4 tremendously bulky, turning it into a variable tablet.  The upside, however, is that the connection is easy, and assuming you’re in a 4G area, it will increase the speed.  Now, the question is:  How much better is 4G vs. 3G.  I can tell you that on pure 4G phones, 4G is very noticeable.  I wouldn’t say you can download a movie in 4-seconds like the Verizon commercials brag about, but it is fast.

Retrofitting a 4G adaptor to a 3G phone?…….not nearly as fast….but it gets the job done.  I’d say it’s worth $130 to bump up your iPhone 4’s upload and download speed by about 4-7 mps.

The Egg also integrates nicely with your network.  It’s really seemless how it can find your 4G network, and connect to it.  No setup, no passwords to enter.  It just works.  Currently, it’s only available in Korea, but we’ll keep you updated when it’s available in the states, which should be very soon.
