In the latest gadget news, Twitter is now letting you send photos via text message. Essentially, you can attach a photo to an SMS message and then send that as an MMS to Twitter. It’s then posted to your wall. Sound familiar? The service is available on several carriers around the globe.
Another feature also allows you to use SMS commands to get details from Twitter by text message. The new commands include the following:
“Suggest”: lets you get suggestions regarding accounts to follow
“Stats”: sends you your basic profile info, including your bio info, number of followers and the number of accounts you follow
“Help” or “Tips”: to get handy Twitter SMS tips
Finally, the Fast Follow service that has been available to those in the US has now rolled out internationally, although it only works with carriers that the Twitter picture messages service works on. Those carriers include:
- AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Cellular South in the US
- Vodafone, O2 and Orange in the UK
- Vodafone Italy
- Rogers Communications in Canada
- VIVA Bahrain
- TIM Brazil
Expect more carriers to follow over the coming months. This service is huge. It sounds like Twitter is becoming a smaller version of Facebook, and you’ll be able to use all of your new gadgets with this service.
