Nokia hasn’t been making huge splashes in the handset market lately; however they are developing headsets that seem to be landing on the ‘favorites’ list of many industry experts. We recently looked at the Nokia Luna Bluetooth headset, one of the many new gadgets they’ve brought to market in the last couple of months. Creative thinking when into the design and shape of this sucker. It looks like it fell right out of a spaceship.
The Luna includes a a base for charging and storing your headset. Removing it from the base automatically powers on the Bluetooth and saves on battery life when it’s not in use. When you place it back in the base, the Luna will power down.
But that’s not your only connectivity option here. Nokia has incorporated an RFID chip inside, allowing you to pair it with a smartphone bearing the same technology simply by physically tapping the two together. Other handsets with built-in NFC, such as the Nokia C7, Oro, 600, 603, 700, 701 and N9, will all be able to play nice with it, freeing up Bluetooth for some other device to work with your phone.
The ear piece itself weighs 5g, while the charging base is 18.3g, so it should be very pocket friendly. It supports Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and multi-point connections, enabling you to pair it with two devices simultaneously. In terms of battery life, expect 8-hours of talk time and 60 days of standby.
Sound quality is really good. Because of the noise-isolating in-ear function, it is one of the much better Bluetooth headsets out there where you can actually hear the receiver loud and clear. And comfort is great. You just plug that bad boy in your ear and you’re good to go. No wrapping a device around an ear, or dealing with a sound boom.
The Nokia Luna, which comes in black, white, fuchsia, green, yellow and blue, will arrive sometime in November for around $95.

Nokia Luna Bluetooth Headset launched
ISTANBUL, Turkey – Alongside the Nokia 603launched today, we’re also introducing the Nokia Luna Bluetooth Headset. As you can see, it’s a brighter, poppier offering than the sober silver units you’re probably used to. The second thing that makes it a bit special is that it’s NFC enabled. The Nokia Luna headset is a striking two-piece design. There’s the base and the part that you put in your ear. Taking the earpiece out of the base automatically fires up the Bluetooth connection to your phone and answers incoming calls. Putting it back hangs up the call and powers down the Bluetooth connection.
Like the recent Nokia J headset, there are voice prompts to assist you with pairing, and also to tell you when the battery is low. So pairing is pretty simple. It’s even simpler if you’ve got one of our phones with NFC built in (Currently, the Nokia C7, Oro, 600, 603, 700, 701 and N9). In that case, you can just bump the two things together and the job’s done.
It’s a compact little unit. The earpiece weighs a mere 5g, while the holder is 18.3g. On the technical front, it supports Bluetooth specification 2.1 + EDR, Handsfree profile 1.5 and Headset Profile 1.1 advanced multipoint. That last one is pretty important, because it means you can attach two different phones to the headset – for work and personal phones, for example. Battery life is pretty special, too: up to eight hours talktime or sixty days standby (providing you pop it back in the holder).
