ASUS demoed its G75VW gaming laptop at Computex last Thursday, the very first notebook in the world to sport 802.11ac WiFi capabilities. The 5G-ready laptop is able to support speeds as high as 900Mbps, a few shades short of the gigabyte range. While hands-on reviewers weren’t able to test its full capabilities due to logistical limitations, the laptop did occasionally break the 400Mbps barrier during trials. This development came to most as a surprise, as ASUS released a specification sheet for the G75VW last month with the next-gen WiFi capabilities notably absent.
The high-speed capabilities of the ASUS G75VW are meant to bolster its gaming prowess. Combined with a 17.3-inch high-definition LCD screen, an NVIDIA GTX 670M for its GPU, and an Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor from Intel, the G75VW promises the most seamless online gaming experience among current-generation laptops. Gamers should note, however, that top speeds cannot be obtained without a similarly 802.11ac-capable router, making mobile gaming a crapshoot based on available connections.
