Samsung’s latest Galaxy Alpha, their metal-clad Galaxy model, has a distinctly different look than the rest of the family…something more premium and metallic to be specific. It measures 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm and weighs only 115 grams. Additionally, it features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display boasting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
There’s an octa-core processor (quad 1.8GHz and quad 1.3GHz) with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage on board, but without a microSD card slot. It also sports Android 4.4.2 KitKat as its operating system out of the box, with a 1,860 mAh battery, LTE support, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC and USB 2.0.
The Alpha also comes with a 12MP camera on board with 4K video recording capabilities at 30fps, and features beauty face, dual camera, HDR (High Dynamic Range), panorama, selective focus, shot and more and virtual tour. Again, there’s no optical image stabilization on the device, and it’s even lower than the one found in the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The device is set to hit retail in early September in many markets, and will be available in four different color options: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver, and Scuba Blue. There’s no word on pricing, but Clove, a UK-based retailer, has already started taking pre-orders for the device for £499.99 including VAT, so US pricing is predicted to be in the $500-600 range.
As a side note, Samsung is expected to launch their flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 4, next month, which will come with a high price tag as well.
