LG has officially announced the circular LG G Watch R, just ahead of the IFA 2014 event in Berlin, and it looks like the Moto 360 may have something to worry about.
“What we’ve noticed in the year of the wearable is that this is a category that can’t be compared to smartphones and tablets,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Wearables are also accessories and consumers will want more than one to choose from. So we wanted to complement the modern design of the original G Watch with the classic look of the G Watch R. Customers can’t go wrong with either device.”
The LG G Watch R specs include a 1.3-inch full circle P-OLED display sporting a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, with a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset under the hood. There’s 4GB of memory, 512MB of RAM, and a 410 mAh battery.
The device is also IP67 certified, making it water-resistant to up to one meter for 30 minutes. Additionally, the smartwatch comes with interchangeable 22mm calf skin leather strap to give it a more premium look compared to the original G Watch. As for the operating system, it runs Android Wear and is compatible with all Android devices running Android 4.3 or higher.
The LG G Watch R will hit key markets across the globe in the fourth quarter of 2014. There’s no word about the pricing of the smartwatch, which will be revealed at the time of launch.
