V-Moda just outed their latest Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones ($330), and they are a thing of beauty. A tad more comfy compared to the original Crossfades, thanks to its new, thicker ear pads. There’s also a new whopping 50mm driver, bigger battery life (14 hours), and more wired-mode frequency response, just to name some of the primary improvements from its predecessor.
V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Design
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless weighs a little over 300 grams, and the larger battery definitely contributes to that. These cans are built like they just came out of a high-tech lab. They feel super sturdy, have a Steelflex headband that conforms to your head solidly, and also fold up to fit into it’s included vented carrying case.
Performance
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones are probably the best-sounding Bluetooth headphones we’ve tested, with tremendous bass, and clear and crisp highs and mids. The sound is also nicely balanced and sounds really open, especially for a closed-back headphone. Usually you’ll lose a little integrity with Bluetooth, but not with these babies.
Additionally, the V-Moda’s also come in a Rose Gold model, which costs $350, and adds support for the aptX codec, which can offer even more improved sound quality when using Bluetooth devices that support it. Incidentally, you can also use the Crossfade 2’s to take and receive calls.
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless also works with a wired connection. Sound quality is even better with this configuration, as it has an extended frequency range from 5Hz to 40kHz. The dual-diaphragm drivers use a high-resolution copper-clad aluminum wire coil, and in wired mode, the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones have been certified by the Japan Audio Society to meet the Hi-Res Audio standard.
Bottom Line
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones are a real treat, especially for Bluetooth wireless. The soft ear pads are super comfortable, the extended 14-hour battery life helps with long listening sessions, and the design is gorgeous.
Performance-wise, the Crossfade 2’s work flawlessly, with little to know Bluetooth skips, and pairing is a breeze. When hard-wired, the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones can stand up to any of its competition, regardless of price. Suffice it to say, V-Moda hit a home run with these suckers.
