With Amazon’s Alexa update, the company is allowing you more control over your audio, giving you the ability to adjust the equalizer and sound modes using your voice. Specifically, if your music needs more bass, all you need to do is ask Alexa.
The bands you can tweak are bass, mid and treble, and Alexa can also switch your Echo to a number of EQ presets as well, including sound profiles for TV, sports, music and movies.
The update just rolled out to US Echo users, as well as some third-party Alexa-compatible smart speakers including the new Sonos Beam Soundbar. If you have the Beam, you could, for example, switch to night mode to balance loud and quiet noises in a movie so you don’t bother anyone else in your home late at night.
Amazon is opening up the equalizer function to let developers add it to more speakers, so it could be available on other devices very shortly.
