PreSonus Revelator Professional USB Microphone w/ Onboard DSP

If you’re an online content creator and you’re looking to take the audio quality of your content to next level, one of the best things you can get for your setup is a USB Microphone. That’s mainly because USB Microphones are designed to work as straightforward plug-and-play recording devices that can be seamlessly connected to a Computer by simply using a USB Cable. As such, USB Microphones offer a very user-friendly setup to normal users that don’t know (or care) about the complex aspects of audio production. All and all, their ease-of-use ultimately makes USB Microphones an extremely attractive recording solution for just about any type of content creator. With all that said, if you’re looking for a new USB Microphone to improve the audio quality of your content, consider going with the PreSonus Revelator USB Microphone.

The PreSonus Revelator is a high-end professional USB Microphone that features Onboard DSP Technology, coming with PreSonus’ highly customizable Universal Control Software, which allows you to swap between three different microphone polar patterns for flexibility (including Omnidirectional, Cardioid, and Bidirectional / Figure 8), as well as to access and control all of the microphone’s recording settings directly from your computer via its StudioLive Fat Channel.

In addition to that, this awesome studio-level microphone also features built-in controls for adjusting mic gain and headphone volume, Mic Mute, and instant Preset Switching between its 8 easy-to-use professionally crafted presets (and there are also 8 additional preset slots that can be fully-customized via its Universal Control Software).

Best of all, this professional USB Microphone also comes with an easy-to-use proprietary Loopback Mixer that allows users to bring in multiple sources from other Software Apps, and even comes together with its own DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) Recording Software bundle that includes both PreSonus’ popular Studio One Artist recording and production software as well as its Studio Magic Software Suite, which includes over $1000 worth of plugins.

Last but not least, the PreSonus Revelator is also fully compatible with both macOS and Windows, so no matter what OS you prefer to use, you’re assured to always be ready to start recording.

Coming with a ton of unique customizable features, this powerhouse of a USB Microphone is perfect for all types of content creators. Whether you’re a simply gamer, a live-streamer, a podcaster, YouTuber or vlogger, a voiceover artist, or even a home recording studio musician, the new PreSonus Revelator USB Microphone makes it super-easy for all content creators alike to get polished, professional-sounding results with great sounding presets, easy-to-use loopback audio, and selectable polar patterns.

So, let’s have a fully detailed look at this high-end professional USB Microphone and check out everything that the PreSonus Revelator has to offer you.

    DESIGN & SPECS

Starting with the microphone’s size, the PreSonus Revelator features a fairly compact size, measuring just 5.125 inches in diameter by 8.875 inches tall (130 x 225 mm), which makes it easy to fit in almost any desk space that you have available.

Now, while the Revelator’s several versatile audio-recording features might be the main thing that convinces you to buy this professional USB Microphone, I’d also like to note that not only is this microphone actually quite compact, but it is also ultra-portable, as the mic only weighs 1.6 lbs. (0.73 kg).

Thanks to that, you’re guaranteed to be able to easily carry it with you wherever your professional recording endeavors might take you, and as such, not only you can use it for streaming and recording at home, but you can also use it for any online meetings when you’re on-the-go.

Now, in terms of design, this professional USB Microphone features an ultra-minimalist, yet still very aesthetically appealing design, as it “sports” a very discrete Black Body with somewhat of a Matte Finish that comes accompanied by a very professionally-looking high-quality Silver Grill.

Then, for its Mounting-Options, this microphone already comes together with a dedicated Black Matte Table-Top Weighted Stand (for optional use) which has a simple and sleek appearance throughout its body that perfectly matches the mic’s own body.

In my opinion, having a dedicated stand already coming together with the microphone as an included accessory is something great to see here, because, as we all know, whenever you buy a microphone it’s always nice to have a stand coming with it just so you don’t have to go and spend extra money on a stand just to actually have your new microphone sitting up.

Still, for those who already own (or are planning on buying) a Microphone Boom Arm, know that the PreSonus Revelator can also be mounted onto one, and the same goes for having this USB microphone mounted on a traditional mic stand (instead of using it with the stand that comes with it), as the Revelator also comes with an included Thread Adapter Slot (found at the bottom of the device) and a Mounting Adapter that you can use for that.

Last but not least, since this is in fact a USB Microphone, the Revelator also comes with its own USB-C 2.0 Cable, which can be connected to its USB Bus Power port (found at the middle of the bottom-side of the device).

On that note, I’d also like to point out that at the edge of the microphone’s desktop stand, we also have a built-in Cable Management slot that helps to keep your desk space neat and completely free from any “tangled cable-mess”.

    AUDIO QUALITY

Now, moving on to the microphone’s Audio Specs and Audio quality. Since the PreSonus Revelator is built to work as a condenser mic, this microphone has got more detail as well as a higher-output so you can capture any recordings with a lot more detail than when using something like a dynamic microphone, where you’d basically have to be right up close with your microphone, whereas with a condenser mic like the PreSonus Revelator you can comfortably sit at around 1.5 ft. from it and still be able to record at a high-quality level.

In other words, this USB microphone is designed to ultimately give you flawless professional-quality recordings.

INTERFACE / CONTROLS & ONBOARD DSP (Universal Control Software)

Now, note that this awesome studio-level microphone also features built-in controls that can be used for instant Preset Switching, as well as for adjusting different settings like Mic Gain and Headphone Volume, and also to quickly mute the microphone.

Additionally, I’d also like to remind our readers that the PreSonus Revelator also features Onboard DSP Technology, as it comes together with PreSonus’ highly customizable Universal Control Software, which ultimately gives you access and control to all of the microphone’s recording settings, including  EQ, Limiter, Compresser, Filter, Gate and also all of the microphone’s different Voice Effects, for which all of those settings can be viewed and controled directly from your computer via its StudioLive Fat Channel.

With all that said, starting right from the top and going down, we have a Preset Button that can be used for quickly swapping between the microphone’s 8 easy-to-use professionally crafted Presets.

Users can choose from presets such as Broadcast, Female Vocal, Space Overlord, and Screamer, as well as some more unique Presets like Slap Echo, Android, AM Radio, as well as standard Reverb and Delay. These Voice Effects can be fine-tuned and you also get a choice of different EQ. In addition to that, and as said before, there are also 8 additional preset slots that can be fully-customized via its Universal Control Software, which ultimately allow you to create your own sounds.

As said before, there’s also a Loopback Mixer that allows users to bring in multiple sources from other Software Apps. On that note, know that you’re also offered two (x2) Stereo Loopback Channels to record and stream different audio sources, whether that’s Skype or Zoom calls, record the audio from your gameplay / gaming sessions, showcase the audio in a YouTube video while adding witty commentary, or anything else in between.

Since this USB Microphone also comes with a 3.5 mm Headphone Jack integrated at its bottom-side (next to its USB-C Bus port), users can also monitor right from the microphone’s Universal Control Software. This can be done by simply clicking the microphone’s Monitor Button.

Additionally, holding that same Monitor Button for a few seconds also triggers a different functionality, basically allowing you to then control and adjust the microphone’s gain for whatever specific Preset you currently have selected.

At the very bottom of the microphone’s simple 3-button interface, we also have a Volume Dial that also doubles as a Microphone Mute Button.

    3 Different Mcrophone Polar Patterns

As mentioned earlier, via its UC Software’, users are also offered three (x3) different Mcrophone Polar Patterns for flexibility, and those patterns are: Omnidirectional, Cardioid, and Bidirectional (Figure-8). Thanks to that, you can very easily switch between these polar patterns according to your recording needs.

So, for times where you’d be doing a roundtable discussion or recording multiple instruments, you can simply select the microphone’s Omnidirectional Pattern to have it pick up sound all the way around the microphone.

Alternatively, for any time where you’d be doing voiceovers or performances (meaning for recording situations where only one voice should be captured) you could simply switch to the microphone’s Cardioid Pattern.

Lastly, if you’d be planning on doing a podcast interview in person, you can also change to the microphone’s Bidirectional (Figure-8) Pattern, and then simply position your Revelator microphone between you so that one side will pick up the interviewer and the other will pick up the guest.

On a final note, I’d also like to say that users can choose between 4 sampling rates up to 96 kHz, with 24-bit recording resolution. Another amazing thing to point out here is that the microphone’s ability to record at 24-bit is simply excellent, as that ultimately gives you much more headroom when you are recording.

    COMPATIBILITY

Now, since the PreSonus Revelator already comes equipped with a built-in USB-C Bus port, that basically means that this microphone is also fully compatible with both macOS and Windows, so no matter what OS you prefer to use, you’re assured to always be ready to start recording.

    INCLUDED SOFTWARE BUNDLE

Last of all, the Revelator also comes together with its own DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) Recording Software bundle, which includes both PreSonus’ popular Studio One Artist recording and production software (which usually sells for around $99) as well as its Studio Magic Software Suite, which, as said before, includes well over $1000 worth of plugins.

It’s worth to mention that this included recording and production software – meaning PreSonus’ popular Studio One Artist – makes it very easy for you to polish your recordings, as it features a very user-friendly drag-and-drop workflow.

With this amazing bundle, users are offered a complete package to either stream, record vocals as a musicians, or you can ultimately use this 2-in-1 recording and production software bundle to actually take down your podcasts into software, and from there you have an all-in-one content solution for capturing the audio, mixing it, and finally putting out to the world in a very easy way.

    FINAL THOUGHTS
