Now that we’ve got your attention, let us tell you exactly how the It’s Kind of a Fun Story card game is meant to be played.
HOW TO PLAY?
The rules to playing It’s Kind of a Fun Story are quite simple. The game can be played with a minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 10 players, who are recommended to be at least 17 years old or older.
To begin the game, each player is given two Hear Me Out Cards and one Nope Card. The rest of the cards are placed in a deck face down next to a smaller set of Take a Chance Cards.
Once the game starts, all players take turns at drawing story prompt cards from the deck and following the four (x4) different card types, which are: Story Card (worth 2 points), Left or Right (worth 1 point), Point a Finger (worth 1 point), and Everybody Answers (worth 1 point).
Each player then chooses to either read out loud the card they’ve drawn and do what that card type requests them to do based on that card’s prompt (such as telling a story when drawing the Story Card, which has to be based on a true story, mind you), or alternatively, to skip their turn.
The catch is that with every skip also comes the risk for another player to jump in and claim the points that you could’ve gotten on your turn.
If a player thinks they have a better story than the player who’s currently playing their turn, they may play a Hear Me Out card or a Take a Chance card to try and steal that player’s points.
Unlike the Story Card that only requires the player that has drawn that card to tell a story (or an opponent that tries to steal their thunder), the Left or Right, Point a Finger, and Everybody Answers cards will have you make quick decisions about other players on the table or even select the full table for a lightning round of creative answers from everyone.
The first player to reach seven points takes the win.
Know that players can also customize the deck to personalize their style of game-play by either keeping the 38 R-rated cards (for adults) to keep things spicy, or alternatively remove them for a more PG-13 experience when playing with kids.
