For metal lovers, it can be hard to find a pair of headphones that truly captures the essence of heavy metal music. This is because most headphones aren’t really designed to reproduce the “heavier” frequency ranges the metal music genre is known for, such as those longer sustained chords and resonant guitar riffs. While there are some really good brands of headphones on the market, no brand has specialized itself in designing headphones that are built specifically for listening to metal music… until now. Meet the Heavys H1H Headphones Bundle, the world’s first headphones designed specifically for metal fans.
The Heavys H1H Headphones are a pair of high-end over-ear headphones that are thoroughly engineered to mimic the live music experience of concerts, featuring a patented natural sound field technology powered by eight dynamic speakers arranged in an optimized placement for covering multiple frequency ranges with great precision, delivering the most optimal sound experience possible for all music genres. They also feature Heavy’s HellBlocker active noise cancellation technology for eliminating background noises, a Transparency mode for listening to your surroundings, and support for voice calls. They also integrate built-in controls, a 3.5mm AUX port and a USB-C port for wired listening, and also boast Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity for wireless use, up to 50 hours battery, and USB-C charging support.
Designed by none other than Sennheiser’s renowned sound guru, Axel Grell, who’s known as the “Godfather of German Sound” for having over 30 years of experience in audio and over 40 patents, these over-ear headphones allow metal fans to get the most from their favorite heavy metal songs.
Here’s our in-depth review of the Heavys H1H Headphones, where we go talk more about the technology behind these over-ear headphones and highlight all the features they have to offer you.
DESIGN & SPECS
Starting with the headphones’ size, the Heavys H1H Headphones have a standard form factor for a pair of over-ear headphones. They also weigh 14.5 oz. (410 g), which is a little more than your typical set of headphones, but that’s due to them integrating a total of 8 speaker drivers.
Nevertheless, these over-ear headphones are designed with users’ comfort in mind. They come equipped with super-soft ear pads made of premium leatherette and cushioned with high-quality memory foam, offering users a good amount of padding that makes the headphones comfortable to wear, even when worn for long listening sessions. (We’d like to note that the company is planning to have replaceable ear pads available in 2025).
The headphones’ ear cups have a depth of 1.1 inches (28mm), meaning they can comfortably fit for most ear sizes, and can also be worn with glasses on.
Moreover, the headphones also come equipped a Japanese Steelflex headband that offers decent support while wearing the headphones. (The company is also planning to have a replaceable head pad for the headphones’ headband sometime in the future).
Overall, these over-head headphones pack a sturdy and solid construction all around.
As for their aesthetic, the Heavys H1H Headphones sport a sleek, metal-inspired design. Of course, since these over-ear headphones were designed specifically for listening to metal music, they come in a solid Black color, for which they also have a smooth finish.
It’s also worth mentioning that the company also has a collection of interchangeable earcup shells for the Heavys H1H, with a wide range of earcup shells featuring official and limited-designs available to choose from (each set of earcup shells is priced at $39).
Plus, they also come with a hard-shell travel case padded with a soft fabric interior, which can be used for storing and transporting the headphones when you’re not using them.
AUDIO SPECS & AUDIO QUALITY
Moving on to the headphones’ audio specifications and audio quality. For delivering their natural sound field profile, the Heavys H1H Headphones leverage a set of eight (x8) dynamic speaker drivers comprised of 2 primary low-to-mid-range woofers and 2 high-frequency tweeters per ear cup that are arranged in a unique, optimized placement to cater to both ends of the sound spectrum. This makes the headphones capable of covering multiple frequency ranges with great precision.
This patented driver placement perfectly emulates a well-defined sound field that sounds as authentic as listening to live music in a concert, giving you the most optimal sound experience possible for all music genres.
The end result is a truly immersive surround sound with a superior audio quality that checks all the boxes, including a treble with exceptional clarity, mids with vast richness of sound, and a bass with incredible sound depth.
The headphones’ dynamic drivers are rated to have a sound frequency range varying between 5 Hz to 46.000 Hz, a maximum sound sensitivity of 100 dB, and a total harmonic distortion under 0.05% (at 1kHz).
In addition, the Heavys H1H Headphones also feature Heavy’s HellBlocker active noise cancellation technology, which effectively reduces unwanted background noises.
What’s more is that these headphones also feature a Transparency mode that can be enabled for listening to your surroundings when necessary, enabling you to listen to someone that’s speaking to you as well as to pay attention to traffic nearby.
Lastly, these over-ear headphones also integrate an array of five (x5) built-in microphones that provide an enhanced noise cancellation when using their ANC mode, while also allowing the headphones to be used for performing voice calls when paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth.
On a side note, we’d also like to mention that while the Heavys H1H can also be used for gaming, the headphones’ mics are digital, meaning you’ll need an analog zero latency cable and mic to connect to most consoles (something that the company is also planning to have available soon).
INTERFACE / BUILT-IN CONTROLS
For controlling the headphones’ different functionalities, the Heavys H1H feature built-in button controls that are located on the outer side of the headphones’ ear cups.
Starting at the left ear cup, there’s a 3.5mm AUX port to which users can connect the included 3.5mm to 2.5mm AUX cable (4.26 ft. / 1.3m) for wired listening with AUX-enabled devices, which is followed by an ANC On/Off switch for controlling the headphone’s ANC mode.
Then there’s a multi-functional button that allows users to Play/Pause and skip to the Next/Previous song as well as enable and disable the headphone’s Transparency mode (this button also lets users accept, decline, and end a voice call), and there’s also a Volume switch for adjusting the headphones’ volume.
On the right ear cup, there’s a USB-C port to which users can connect the included USB-C cable for wired listening with USB-C-enabled devices such as a PC (also used for charging the headphone’s battery)., along with a Bluetooth switch.
CONNECTIVITY
As for their connectivity methods, the Heavys H1H Headphones not only support a wired connection either via AUX or USB-C, but also boast Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity for wireless use, featuring support for SBC, AAC, and aptX adaptive Bluetooth profiles.
BATTERY & BATTERY LIFE
For their power, the headphones also come equipped with a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that can provide users with up to 50 hours of battery life with ANC Off, or an average of 40 hours battery with ANC turned On.
To recharge their battery, you simply have to connect the included USB-C connection cable to the headphones’ dedicated USB-C port. It only takes a few hours for the headphone’s battery to fully recharge.
THE SMARTPHONE COMPANION APP – The Heavys App
While the Heavys H1H currently do not have a companion mobile app for performing further sound adjustments as well as controlling their operation wirelssly, the company is already currently developing an app that will include a sound EQ, enable the management of specific features (probably for controlling their volume and media playback), and some other exciting new advancements (which the company hasn’t mentioned for now).
WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
Inside their package, users will find: their Heavys H1H Headphones, along with a set of original Heavys ear cup shells, a hard-shell travel case, a 3.5mm to 2.5mm AUX cable, a USB-C cable, and a user manual.
