Electric vehicles have gained a lot of popularity over the last few years. Nowadays, more and more people are turning to e-bikes and e-scooters as they’re means of transportation for commuting around town due to their eco-friendly benefits and lower maintenance costs. However, this shift towards adopting electric vehicles doesn’t stop there, and is now reaching other consumer markets. While dirt bike riding isn’t necessarily green and clean since traditional dirt bikes use gas to be able to achieve a powerful performance, electric dirt bikes have now also started surging in popularity, thus offering riders a more Eco-friendly approach to dirt bike riding. Just recently, renowned American moto brand Dust Moto launched the Dust Moto Hightail, an electric off-road bike that aims to make dirt bike riding greener and less harmful towards the environment.
The Dust Moto Hightail is a high-end all-electric dirt bike that features heavy duty all-terrain tires and a compact aluminum chassis which makes it weigh less than 220 lbs, offering riders outstanding handling and maneuverability, precision-engineered front and rear suspensions which deliver great impact absorption, and front and rear piston calliper brakes which provide ultra-responsive braking power. It also comes equipped with a 12000rpm high-speed motor integrated with a quiet electric drivetrain that delivers 42 horsepower and 660Nm of torque, making it capable of reaching up to 75 mph / 120.7 km/h, plus a swappable 4.4kWh battery that enables it to travel up to 40 miles / 64.37 km on a single charge. The bike boasts 4 customizable ride modes and also integrates an LCD dashboard that displays its current speed and ride mode, remaining battery life and estimated ride time.
Designed with both performance and longevity in mind, this all-electric dirt bike offers riders a radically simplified user experience, all while still packing a punch for off-road riding.
In this article we have a closer look at the Dust Moto Hightail, where we talk more about its most notable features.
DESIGN
Starting with the bike’s dimensions, the Dust Moto Hightail features a compact design that delivers a ride like no other, for which it combines a groundbreaking power-to-weight ratio with precision chassis engineering. Its frame consists of a featherweight chassis built of ultra-light aluminum, which makes the bike weigh less than 220 lbs. (~100 kg), giving riders outstanding handling and maneuverability on the trails.
The bike also features a short wheelbase at 55.1 inches (140 cm) and a low seat height at 35.4 inches (90 cm), making it perfect for beginners.

On top of its sleek form factor, the Dust Moto Hightail also sports a gorgeous minimalist design that gives it a truly futuristic aesthetic, almost making it look like a “Tesla-inspired” dirt bike.
Moreover, this all-electric dirt bike is also rated to have an IP67 Water-Resistant construction, which makes it capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain, and that also includes its battery.
This all-electric dirt bike also comes equipped with a 21-inch heavy duty front tire and an 18-inch heavy duty back tire, which give it a lot of traction on all types of terrains, whether that’s loose dirt, sand, gravel, or mud.

In addition, the bike also integrates precision-engineered front and rear suspensions, which deliver great impact absorption, thus enhancing a rider’s control over the bike and overall stability when landing with it. Its rear suspension also features a progressive linkage design with tuned dampers that offers adjustability for its compression, rebound, and spring preload.

The bike’s braking system comprises a four-piston calliper brake with a 260mm rotor at the front and a single-piston calliper brake with a 220mm disc at the rear, which together provide ultra-responsive braking power at all times, ensuring riders can brake safely, even at high speeds.

MOTOR, BATTERY & BATTERY LIFE
For its power, the Dust Moto Hightail leverages a proprietary motorsport motor-gearbox electric motor under its hood that operates at 12000rpm, generating 42 horsepower (peak 32 kW) and a staggering 660Nm of torque. Its high-speed motor makes the bike capable of reaching a maximum speed of 75 mph / 120.7 km/h.

The bike’s motor is also integrated with a custom electric drivetrain with motorsport-grade helical reduction gears and heavy-duty roller bearings, which is engineered to deliver a quiet operation at just 55dB, a much lower volume level when compared to the engine noises from traditional dirt bikes.
Plus, its electric drivetrain is also virtually maintenance-free, meaning it requires no oil or filter changes.
The bike’s motor draws its power from a 4.4kWh 80V battery with high-power cells that’s designed for maximum durability and long-lasting power. This high-capacity battery enables the bike to travel up to 40 miles / 64.37 km on a single charge when riding it at an average speed of 25 mph, offering riders approximately 2 hours of charge.

In regard to recharging the bike’s battery once it’s depleted, know that the bike’s battery can be quickly recharged from 0% back to 100% power in about 4 hours.
What’s more is that the bike’s battery is also swappable, meaning it can be easily removed and swapped out in less than a minute with a fully charged one (note that extra battery packs are sold separately).
INTERFACE / BUILT-IN CONTROLS
As for controlling the bike’s acceleration, this all-electric dirt bike has no clutch, gear shifting, or foot controls, as it is designed to make riding intuitive, thus enabling the rider to focus on the ride itself without worrying about extra steps to get the bike going. Instead, you simply twist the throttle and off you go.

This design choice ultimately makes this all-electric dirt bike suitable for both beginners and experienced dirt bike riders.
The Dust Moto Hightail also integrates an LCD dashboard at the top center of its chassis, through which users can visualize at a glance the bike’s current speed and ride mode, remaining battery life and estimated ride time.

The bike features four (x4) different customizable ride modes ranging from levels 1 to 4, which offer different speed limits and battery range depending on which one you choose.
